The next Lewisham Borough Reunion will be held in the Coney Suite at the Warren Sports Club, Hayes, Kent on Wednesday 3rd October 2012. The event is open to serving and retired police officers, police staff and their partners. Anyone who ever served at Brockley, Catford, Deptford, Ladywell, Lee Road, Lewisham or Sydenham is welcome to attend. A free buffet is being provided thanks to the current Lewisham Borough Social Club. Come along and meet friends old and new, the previous reunion was the best attended yet. Here at Topical Television was are in production on a series called 'Crime and Punishment' looking at the changes in policing and prisons over the past 50 years . The series is for BBC 1 daytime and will transmit early next year.
One of the short films we are making for the series is on the History of Women in Policing within which we are looking to interview several retired female officers to tell their stories and share their career memories. We are keen to have accounts from several different officers from throughout the last 50 years if possible. Maybe two friends that were in the force together or women who served at different levels of the force, PC'S through to Superintendents. Anyone who has a story to tell especially if it involves key moment or changes in policing over the last 50 years we would love to hear from them.

I work in the volunteering department at Guide Dogs. We are currently looking for volunteers to help the district team based in Euston and wondered whether any of your members might be interested in helping us.
The district team, made up of Guide Dog Mobility Instructors, carry out the advanced stages of training with the dogs and match the dogs to their new owners. They have dogs in the office during normal office hours (9 - 5ish) and then the dogs stay with volunteer boarders in the evenings and at weekends.
We are looking for volunteers to help out our volunteer boarders by collecting the dogs from their homes in the morning and dropping them off at the Euston office between 8 am and 9am. We are then also looking for volunteers to come into the office around 5pm and groom the dogs for an hour or so before dropping them back at the boarders homes. These volunteers would be able to use our vehicles. Most of the volunteer boarders live around the Euston or Camden area so the role would suit someone that lived not far from that area. We would ideally like around
4 volunteers in total for the morning and afternoon driving shifts. We feel it would be beneficial to do the shifts in pairs on a rota basis.
We would love to talk to you and your members more about these volunteering roles. Myself and one of the mobility instructors would be more than happy to come along to one of your meetings (with a dog!) to talk a bit more about what we do and about the volunteering opportunities on offer. Alternatively, we would really appreciate it if we would be able to put something on your noticeboard to reach your members.

The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) needs new volunteers. SSAFA support those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both.
There are lots of roles for volunteers in our Branches that support those with an ex-service background. They include casework, publicity, fundraising, administration and IT support. You do not need a Service connection to join us, training is provided and out of pocket expenses are paid.

I work for a non profit production company, CTVC, which make programmes highlighting social, ethical and moral issues for Channel 4, BBC and Radio 4.
I am looking to make a thoughtful and inspiring programme which brings the many stories of people who have worked in the emergency services to light. As part of this project I am keen to speak to retired police officers about the one case they have never forgotten. It may be that the case remains unsolved, and to this day the details of the case plays on the officers mind. It may be that a chance occurrence led to the discovery of evidence and the officer still reminisces about how close the perpetrator was to getting away with the crime– whatever the story, it is something that has made it stand out in the mind of the officer.
I am in the early stages of research and not looking to film with anyone at this point. There would be no commitment to take part in any future project and all conversations with any retired officers would be in total confidence.

WERE YOU POLICING IN THE 50's? IF SO THE BBC WOULD LIKE YOUR HELP.
I am a researcher for a series of 5 daytime documentaries for BBC1 about the 1950s which will go out in March to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.
The series will focus on life during the 50s and I am working on a strand of films that will tell of the different social tribes during the period.
One of the tribes we are exploring is the nostalgic Bobby on the beat epitomised by the popular TV Dixon of Dock Green.
We are really keen to talk to a policeman who was active during the 50s and has memories of what it was like that support the image presented in this series.
We really want a great character - someone with some great stories and ideally some photographs/archive of them working during this decade.
